The Lennon Wall of Freedom & Energy – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
This April, the inflatable version of the stunning Lennon Wall mural will make its way to Prague for a special preview at Žluté lázně, and I’m incredibly proud to have been part of this international project. The Lennon wall, a historic symbol of freedom, peace, and unity, has been reimagined as a 35 x 5-meter inflatable mural that will travel across the Czech Republic to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Lennon Wall and what would have been John Lennon’s 85th birthday.
What makes this project even more special is the story behind it. Back on September 7, 2022, I had the absolute honor of being selected as the artist to represent Ireland in this incredible international mural project. The WALL OF FREEDOM & ENERGY brought together artists from all 27 EU countries, plus special guests from Ukraine and Norway, to create a large-scale mural celebrating the themes of freedom and energy.
As a lettering artist and muralist, this was a dream come true. The power of words has always inspired me and there was no better place to channel that inspiration than on a wall that has been a symbol of resistance and hope for decades. My contribution to the mural was the phrase “High Hopes,” painted in my signature script and 3D lettering styles. It felt so meaningful to be part of such a powerful mural project in a space that has carried messages of hope for so many years.
To preserve the project, the mural was photographed in great detail and then recreated as an inflatable version, allowing it to travel to cities like Paris and Strasbourg before coming back to Prague this April. It's amazing to think that a piece of art created by artists from all over Europe will continue to inspire people around the world.
The Lennon Wall doesn’t divide, it unites. I’m so proud to have been part of this project and I can’t wait for more people to experience it.
